30th Annual Fall ITW Conference, Friday, October 8, 2010

Mark your calendars for the 30th Annual Fall Indiana Teachers of Writing Conference on Friday, October 8, 2010!  Join the Hoosier Writing Project and other sites of the National Writing Project Indiana network for a day devoted to best practice in the writing process.  Registration, which is $100, is due by Wednesday, September 29.  The conference will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel and Conference Center at Union Station in downtown Indianapolis.  The day begins at 7:30 a.m. with registration.  The keynote is at 8:45 a.m., and the day concludes at 3:00 p.m.  A program of the over 30 concurrent breakout sessions will be posted here in mid-September.

HWP Directors Present at NCTE, 2009

November 19, 2009, Philadelphia. Mary Nicolini and Steve Fox,Directors of the Hoosier Writing Project, presented a workshop in Philadelphia on the relationships between high schools and National Writing Project sites.

The co-directors of this Writing Project site, ran a workshop entitled, “Ways In: Writing Project Sites Partnering with High Schools,” which examined how school reform initiatives influence how teacher consultants conduct professional development in their schools and schools around the state.

21st Annual Authors' Conference a Success

South Bend-- Hundreds of young South Bend writers came back to school on a recent Saturday to participate in a Student Authors Conference.  The event was hosted by Hoosier Writing Project Teacher-Consultant, Linda Brookshire, at LaSalle Intermediate School. 

Two published authors spoke at the event, a couple of students got the pleasure of seeing their work performed on-stage.

Hello, HWP teacher-consultants, friends, and inquirers!  I thought I’d let you know a few of the many activities we’re involved in. 
  •      Putting on the annual Indiana Teachers of Writing (ITW) fall conference, Friday, Oct. 9th.  (See story elsewhere on this page.)
  •      Entering our second year of partnership with Noblesville High School, where our focus is on academic literacy, especially reading in the different content areas.  We meet once a month with a team of teachers from various disciplines.  We’d love to work with your school in this way.

The Hoosier Writing Project Summer Institute

At I.U.P.U.I. in Indianapolis, June 2-25, 2010 
At the University of Notre Dame, will return June 2011

The National Writing Project is a university-based teacher-centered program. Each year, at all NWP sites, successful teachers of writing from all levels of instruction, elementary school through university, are identified and invited to participate in intensive five-week Summer Institutes.
